A horse painted on the underside of a domed bubble crystal, set in brass. 1 1/4 inches, and it opens.
Painting the image on the back of the glass rather than the front is what gives it depth - the subject sits behind the curve and appears to float inside it.
This is the painted version of the technique rather than the older reverse-carved rock crystal work, and it is 1950s rather than Victorian.
