Vintage Geoffrey (Tailor) Black Watch Kilt Skirt, Pure New Wool - W24-27"
Black Watch tartan kilt skirt in pure new wool, size XS, with a wrapped front, two buckled straps and a velcro closure inside the waist. Silver hardware, and the kilt pin is still with it.
Made by Geoffrey (Tailor) Highland Crafts of the Royal Mile, Edinburgh. Geoffrey Nicholsby graduated from the Tailor and Cutting Academy in London and qualified as a master tailor in 1969; with his wife Lorna he founded the business in 1971, and it is still there, still a kiltmaker rather than a souvenir shop. His mother made kilts during the war, and taught the craft to his father.
The label prints the shop's telephone as 031 557 0256. Edinburgh's dialling code became 0131 in April 1995, which dates the label before then.
Black Watch is the dark green and navy sett of the Royal Highland Regiment, and the most sober of the tartans, which is why it has outlasted the rest in ordinary clothes.
