L'Étoile du Nord — Notes on Minneapolis

Mille Minneapolis

L’Étoile du Nord.

The state motto of Minnesota is a small piece of French poetry: l’étoile du nord — the star of the north. We think about it often. There is something about this place — the cold clean light, the lakes that freeze and thaw and freeze again, a winter long enough to make you grateful for every green thing — that teaches you to find the beauty in the quiet seasons.

MILLE was born in Austin and raised here, and the city has worked its way into everything we make. Our flagship sits at the Galleria in Edina — 3477 Galleria — a room we filled with the things we love and the women we love dressing.

This summer we made a little love letter to the city: a Minneapolis monogram, a cherry and a spoon (if you know, you know), in lilac — a quiet bow to a certain genius in purple — and a cherry red drawn from the most famous spoon in town. Small things, made for the people who call this place home, and for the ones who carry it with them when they go.

The star of the north. We’re grateful to be under it.
