Born in Noosa, Australia, Natalie Martin gained a love for fashion at an early age when she would create clothing to sell to the local markets in her area. She later started to work in fashion marketing at an Italian leather goods brand (Tod’s and Hogan) until she decided to branch out and start her own fashion line offering creative and elegant boho-style dresses.
Growing up in Australia, she often travelled to Bali on vacation and became obsessed with the unique prints and fabrics that the artisans specialized in there. She soon started working with the distinct Batik process out of Bali — a hand-dying process that has been used by artisans in Indonesia for centuries.
Now working out of LA, her pieces are made right in Bali using this century-old Batik craft that involves a manual wax-resist dying technique. All done by hand, this process involves painting patterns on silk with wax and then placing them into a dye bath where the areas without wax are dyed. The wax is then removed and repeated to apply multiple stunning colors and patterns. The results are feminine, elegant designs that showcase the brilliance in colors and shapes.
Each piece is one of a kind and like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Blending high quality yet relaxing and sophisticated designs, her brand offers simple, playful items that you can wear just about anywhere.
