Made of high-quality natural fibers and sold in small collections, Aymara is a brand for those who truly care about looking and feeling good about what they are wearing. Aymara is designed for those who love long-lasting warm knits and delicate sustainable fabrics.
Established in 2007, Aymara was founded by a Belgian engineer, Sven Van Gucht, and a Peruvian travel agent, Yannina Esquivias, who met during a sabbatical year. They fell in love, quit their jobs, and started a knitting factory in Peru. Today, each piece of the Aymara knitwear is produced in Arequipa, south Peru and managed by Yannina’s family.
The Aymara collections feature beautiful accessories and innovative designs carefully made from a selection of premium fibers. Summer collections are made of Peruvian Pima cotton — soft and fine cotton that is lightweight and airy. Winter collections are made with alpaca blends, renowned for its thermal properties and silkiness. Aymara only uses the finest alpaca fibers from Peru and merino wool from Argentina — both natural options that are also sustainable.
Aymara also offers a small theme of hand knit accessories that are made by Peruvian women who would otherwise, not be able to work with a business due to their family situation. That’s why this brand is proud to offer alternative means that can benefit local women and the environment while offering a unique, hand-crafted collection.
